In 2009, I was working as Market Editor at VIBE Magazine when we arrived at the office one morning to find out that would be our last day. Unemployed and spending plenty of time at home, I started needle+thræd––in my kitchen to be exact. This time I thought, I would create something that had a lasting impact and use my talents for a greater purpose.
Now, through a Fair-Trade organization, I employ the extremely talented Maasai women above to create beautiful pieces which help keep their tradition alive while sustaining their families. Above, Esther is beading one of my favorite designs that is painstakingly tedious but absolutely stunning in the end. By the way, how beautiful are these women wrapped in traditional Maasai shuka fabric?
More to come, stay tuned...
